Our Founder responded to new statistics from the Ministry of Justice on prolific criminals being able to commit crimes repeatedly, up to 50 times, before being jailed.
Rory Geoghegan, the director of the Public Safety Foundation and a former police officer, said: “These statistics reveal just how weak and ineffective many community sentences are, emboldening criminals with their leniency and the lack of any meaningful or serious consequence.
“Every single criminal conviction represents an opportunity for the state to stop a criminal in their tracks and to send a deterrent to others, and yet these statistics reveal that all too often criminals are being given every encouragement to continue, rather than to desist.”
