The Daily Mail reports on a Freedom of Information request filed by The Public Safety Foundation’s Managing Director, Oliver Laurence, requesting an update on the progress of an investigation into alleged gross misconduct of a senior Metropolitan Police officer.
Mr Laurence said public disillusionment with police was understandable when senior officers often continued to draw huge salaries while protracted investigations into their conduct proceeded.
He added: ‘Time and again, senior officers facing misconduct allegations remain in post or negotiate discreet exits.’
They continue to draw six-figure salaries while investigations crawl forward, costing the taxpayer a small fortune.’
The public will rightly be asking why an investigation of this nature can take so long to finalise.’
These are not complex international cases. They are not terrorism investigations or sophisticated frauds requiring years of investigations.’
They are administrative and procedural matters that should be resolved swiftly.
